No Bones About it- Jessica Lacy Adds a New Twist to Canine Couture

Jessica Lacy introduces her eponymous line of collars and necklaces targeted at the fashion forward canine.

September 1, 2004 - Walk through your average pet boutique and you will find tiny hooded sweatshirts, dog beds that closely resemble the couch you have in your living room, and water dishes with hip, clever designs. You will not, however, find much neckwear created with the same fun spirit as some of these items.

Tired of bones and paw prints, Designer Jessica Lacy took matters into her own hands by creating a line of dog collars, cat collars and pet necklaces so stylish that owners would want to strap on one of her necklaces and wear it themselves. The designs feature Swarovski crystals, which add a dazzling touch to each item.

Life with animals isnt supposed to be serious. Theyre there for us to play with, to make us laugh, to brighten our day. I wanted my designs to reflect that, with vibrant colors and fun shapes. I chose Swarovski Crystals to be the base of my designs because theyre so eye catching, and they look like little bits of candy, says Lacy.

Lacys collection includes Swarovski Skull and Cross-bone collars, funky striped beaded necklaces, and specially designed Mommy and Me jewelry for pets and their people. Each necklace in the collection is named after an animal that Lacy or a friend owns, and the story of each of those animals appears on a hangtag attached to the cleverly designed pink tins the company uses as packaging.

When people see my necklaces, and even some of the collars, they hold them up to their necks and wrists to see what the pieces would look like on themselves. A friend of my mothers even wore one of my small collars as a bracelet to a party. I guess that if my goal was to create stylish pet accessories on par with what humans wear, I suppose that means I succeeded.
